Part Number: AAK-866
This 1717 French Grenadier's musket is stocked in teak finished as walnut. The lock, barrel, and iron furniture are finished bright. The barrel will require drilling the vent hole. Stocked in military style, the forend is a bit shorter than the barrel, giving the fingers a good grip on the ramrod. Notice the wooden rod, light, efficient, but replaced by a heavy steel rod on later models. Steel rod pipes and a flared steel tip finish the ramrod. A simple square block front sight blade is the only sight on this musket, and acts as a bayonet lug.
An early barrel band of steel supports the front sling swivel. Perhaps the first French musket to use a barrel band, this musket uses pins and lugs to retain the barrel. Later muskets abandoned pins and lugs, and relied on multiple barrel bands to retain the barrel to stock. This is still true for military guns.
The 47" barrel is tapered round with a filed flat on the top. The barrel is polished bright and will develop a patina with use. The .69 caliber bore is bright in new condition. Original French muskets were required to be between .69 and .73 caliber.
