French 1717 Grenadier's Musket, .69 caliber, 47" barrel, teak finished as walnut, iron furniture

$
0
0

Part Number: AAK-866
This 1717 French Grenadier's musket is stocked in teak finished as walnut. The lock, barrel, and iron furniture are finished bright. The barrel will require drilling the vent hole. Stocked in military style, the forend is a bit shorter than the barrel, giving the fingers a good grip on the ramrod. Notice the wooden rod, light, efficient, but replaced by a heavy steel rod on later models. Steel rod pipes and a flared steel tip finish the ramrod. A simple square block front sight blade is the only sight on this musket, and acts as a bayonet lug.

An early barrel band of steel supports the front sling swivel. Perhaps the first French musket to use a barrel band, this musket uses pins and lugs to retain the barrel. Later muskets abandoned pins and lugs, and relied on multiple barrel bands to retain the barrel to stock. This is still true for military guns.

The 47" barrel is tapered round with a filed flat on the top. The barrel is polished bright and will develop a patina with use. The .69 caliber bore is bright in new condition. Original French muskets were required to be between .69 and .73 caliber.

Part Number: AAP-567
This classic American flint longrifle captures the style of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania gun makers with carving influenced by Isaac Haines. Stocked in curly maple, trimmed in brass furniture, with a 38" Colerain swamped octagon barrel and large Siler flint lock. This attractively shaped and finished rifle is new, unfired, by contemporary builder Mike Compton.

The Colerain .45 caliber 38" swamped barrel is thickest at the breech, tapers to a narrow waist and flares at the muzzle. The swamped octagon barrel gives the rifle a modest weight without being overly muzzle heavy. The bore is cut rifled with six radius lands and grooves with a 1 in 48" twist for a patched round ball. We recommend our .440" pure lead round ball, patched with .015" Ox-Yoke patching, lubricated with our Mink Oil tallow patch grease, if you require best accuracy. The rear sight is dovetailed 9-1/2" ahead of the rear sight. The front sight is a nickel silver blade with brass base.

Part Number: AAP-618
This Southern influenced Kentucky pistol is stocked in curly maple, stained brown with golden undertones. Neatly fitted, the brass furniture has a hand burnished appearance and nicely compliments the tone of the stock. The straight octagon Green Mountain barrel and flintlock are finished to a blue gray. Hand made by contemporary builder Kenneth Lincavage.

The 10" straight octagon Green Mountain Barrel Company has been draw filed smooth and finished to a blue with a gray undertone. The .50 caliber bore is mirror bright, cut rifled with eight lands and grooves with a fast twist ideal for a patched round ball. The bore is bright in as-new condition. The barrel is fitted with a small nickel silver blade front sight and dovetailed with a rear sight.

The classic European flint lock is a refined early style lock, with a pointed tail on the lock plate. A decorative molding has been filed across the lock plate ahead of the tail. The flat faced plate features chamfered edges, to echo the octagon theme of the barrel. The plate is made with an integral pan and a bridle arm to support the frizzen pivot screw.

The graceful gooseneck cock, sculptured frizzen, and the fancy frizzen spring with concealed mounting screw and feather finial, all reflect the artistic flare of the European lock makers that exported locks to Colonial America.

Fast ignition is assured by the stainless vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. A vent liner brings the main powder charge very close to the center of your priming flash. Study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

Part Number: AAP-514
This early flint Trade Gun is a replica of those made in England, circa 1730 to 1760, for the Indian fur trade in America and Canada. Author T. M. Hamilton has designated this as the "Type G" gun, in his book Colonial Frontier Guns. Although few of these early guns have survived as complete guns, many partial examples have been found at archaeological sites generally east of the Mississippi river. Widely distributed, this early gun is ideal for use by a serious re-enactor. This Trade Gun has the maker's mark of contemporary builder Steve Losey.

Stocked in walnut this English Type G trade gun is trimmed in hand made brass furniture, with engraved decorative finials on most of the furniture. The stock, R.E. Davis flintlock, and 20 gauge barrel are all finished with a well aged patina. A sling swivel and button are fitted. A woven sling is included with this smoothbore (not shown).

The tapered octagon-to-round 42" barrel has a double wedding band transition to round. The 20 gauge bore measures .615" diameter. We recommend our ..595" diameter round balls, and .010" Ox-Yoke patches, lubed with our Mink Oil tallow patch lubricant for easy loading. Use the new non-toxic bismuth bird shot for waterfowl, or conventional lead shot for upland game. Order our 20 gauge wads and cards, too.
